I’m Joca, a backend developer working mostly with Python and TypeScript. I build APIs and the systems around them. I like the design work as much as the code, especially figuring out what a problem needs before choosing the tools.
System design is my favorite part of the job. I ask whether a system needs Kafka, a queue, or just a webhook. The answer depends on the problem, so I want to understand the tradeoffs before adding another moving part.
With agents, the playground feels limitless. I can ask an agent to try four scenarios, measure what happens, and choose based on what works in practice, not just what sounds right in theory. What a future, eh?
Frontend isn’t a barrier for me anymore. I’ve learned a lot by moving side projects from Vercel to Cloudflare and building with Next.js, TanStack, and Astro. Each one has something to teach me. I think learning these tools and trying them in real projects is part of being an engineer. That’s my motto too :)
Some of my closest friends are designers, architects, journalists, and musicians. Talking with people who approach problems differently helps me spot assumptions I’d miss if I only talked to other developers.
Outside work, I build things for myself and my friends. I’m working on CotizaLupa, and I made a Telegram bot so we can keep track of our Age of Empires II matches.
